The Bells of St Michael and All Angels Church, Puriton

Do You Want To Ring The Changes?

The bells of St Michael and All Angels Church are normally rung for Sunday service, weddings and various special occasions  To ensure there are always enough people to meet commitments, more volunteers are needed to join the small but dedicated band of change ringers at the church.  The current band consists of eight ringers so, ideally, another two or three people would help to cater for holidays and other commitments.

There are six bells in the bell tower, parts of which date back to the 13th century.  The upper part, together with the church’s nave and aisle, date from the later part of the 15th century.  The bells include one from the medieval Bristol foundry and three of 1725 by Abraham Rudhall.

You don’t need any previous experience, as full training will be given, and you don’t have to be a church goer to get involved.  Age (provided you are an adult) and gender don’t matter either, although a couple of strong men would be great to handle the bigger, heavier bells.  In addition to church services, weddings etc., the ringers usually meet for practice on Monday evenings at 7.30.
