Door Knockers
We've had a general alert from PCSO Rachel Aston regarding pedlars trying to sell things on the door step.
Below is her advice:
"I
just
wanted to make you aware of an issue that has arisen today regarding people selling door to door
and ask that you make people in your area aware of it.
If a person comes to your door asking you to purchase items from them, for example pictures, they must hold a valid Pedlars Licence.
A Pedlar Licence is a certificate obtained from a police force which is paid for by the seller, and it allows the person named and photographed on the licence to sell anywhere in the UK for one year from date of purchase.
If someone comes to your door asking you to purchase items from them, please do not be pressured into buying from them. You have the right to ask them to leave and to ask if they have a valid Pedlars Licence. If they do not, you can call the police as they are committing an offence
by not holding a licence,
but please remember to keep yourself safe at all times
.
These people appear to work in groups and cover large distances
.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me"
General Advice on Crime Prevention
The residents of Puriton are reminded to be vigilant and secure their homes and property.
Always leave keys, wallets, bags and other valuable items out of view of windows and doors. Lock doors and windows at night or when not in the property and when possible use security lighting and burglary alarms.
Low hedges or fences at the front of your property are recommended and high fencing or hedges at the rear of your property.
…… Look in when you are out
Leave a light on together with a radio or TV
Lock all doors and windows before you go out
Set any house alarm
Close all curtains when it is dark
Make sure your security lights are in working order and put internal lamps on timer switches to come on when dark if you are away
Should you require any further advice or information, please contact PC Jasmine Desmond or PCSO Rachel Aston from your Community Beat Team.
