Puriton Junior Youth Club

Three Women in Search of a Man

Puriton Youth Club has been in existence for quite a few years now, and after various trials and tribulations, a junior youth club (age 8 to end of primary) now meets on Mondays from 6.00 to 7.30 p.m. in the Range at the Sports Centre off Batch Road.

We are affiliated to the Somerset Rural Youth Project (SRYP), and run entirely by volunteers. In addition to our members’ subscriptions, the club is supported by donations from Puriton Bingo Club. Every Monday evening, Yvonne, Cherie and Judith supervise a programme of ball games, pool, crafts etc., run the tuck shop , and drink tea. Over the years, we’ve seen varied groups of young people and we agree that the group we’ve got now are generally a happy, lively, polite crowd.

We would like to offer our members a more varied selection of activities—properly organised games, perhaps, or cookery sessions in the Sports Centre’s well-equipped kitchen. But there are only three of us, we’re all women, and two of us are the wrong side of 50. So we hope to use the internet, and specifically the Puriton Parish Council website, for the purpose for which it was intended—namely, to find ourselves a man (or better still, men).

If there’s a man or men out there who are young or at least young at heart, have a good sense of humour, and want to make a contribution to entertaining the young people of the village, we want to hear from them. They will have to go through a CRB check (free of charge) and be willing to observe some simple ground rules.   If they want to develop their youth work skills, SRYP offer free training courses. You don’t have to attend every week, but in order to plan in advance, we would like you to be willing to stick to a rota.

Please would anybody who’s interested in helping out (male or female) please contact Judith on 685242 or Yvonne on 683672 or via the website.
