Recipe Book Success

You will be pleased to hear that the Recipe Book entitled Puriton Pies and Puddings produced by members of St Michael's Church has sold out of the first print run.  A second print is now in my possession.  So you can see from this that it is very popular.

The old pictures of Puriton have been very well received especially old photos of Puriton people.  I have had calls from villagers asking where the photos come from as they recognise family and friends from very many years ago.

There are  78 mouthwatering recipes in the book, very good value and every penny raised goes to very much needed funds for the Church.

Here is an example of a recipe for you all to try out and, when you realise how good it is to eat, contact the Vicar or me and buy a book immediately.

PEAR AND CHOCOLATE TRIFLE

2 chocolate covered swiss rolls, sliced

Large tin of pear halves, chopped

2 lime jellies made up as per instructions

Homemade custard or 2 tins/tubs of good custard

1 jar of good quality sauce or melted chocolate

1 pint of whipped cream to top

Grated chocolate or chocolate shapes to decorate

1. In a large glass bowl lay the swiss roll pieces, cover with jelly and leave to set

2. Top with a layer of chopped pear

3. Make a chocolate custard by mixing the custard with the chocolate sauce, stirring vigorously, and cover the pears with the sauce.

4. Leave to chill before topping with whipped cream.

5. Decorate with chocolate

This is a recipe from our Vicar the Rev Doris Goddard.  I have sampled this and it is delicious, I had to call a halt after two large bowls.  Doris tells us in the book that she was pleased to find there is a connection with Puriton, whose original name was Periton-the place where pears grow.

Church History

Parts of the present building date back to the 13th century.  If you'd like to learn more about the church's history click here.  We will be adding more items of interest to the church history section as time goes by.
